Visiting the Delaware River Region

As flourishes of fall colors begin to line the banks of the Delaware River, communities from Bordentown to Williamstown welcome visitors with a wealth of ways to have fun outdoors. Make the most of the season's mild weather while finding a sense of local life through a variety of special events, festivals, and family friendly activities – New Jersey's Delaware River region has it all this season.

New Jersey is full of football fanatics, but the Delaware River region is sandwiched between the homes of two NFL rivals – allegiances are divided. Football fans in Thorofare are just 20 minutes away from Lincoln Financial Field, the home of the Philadelphia Eagles. Meanwhile, fans in Westampton and Bordentown are within an hour of MetLife Stadium, where the Eagles' division foes, the New York Giants, play, along with the New York Jets. Check the schedule during your visit to witness the action in person – the NFL season goes through January 3rd.

Taking up more than 20 percent of New Jersey's land area, the 1.1 million acres of the New Jersey Pinelands National Reserve invite New Jersey visitors to enjoy some fall foliage. Peak foliage is expected from mid-October through the first week of November, but areas like Wharton State Forest, Bass River State Forest are primed for nature walks, horseback riding, swimming, kayaking, and more all season long.

Vacationers in Bordentown and Westampton enjoy convenient access to Six Flags Great Adventure, and this time of year the theme park is even more exciting than ever. The 2015 Fright Fest Presented by SNICKERS runs weekends September 19th through November 1st, promising plenty of thrills by day and fright by night in the world's largest "scream park."

History buffs visiting Thorofare won't want to miss a chance to experience the Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial. Embark on an interactive tour through the USS New Jersey's passageways, mess halls, cabins, control rooms, and ladders to gain insight into the lives of her former crew. New for this fall, the Battleship Chowline concession stand even offers visitors lunch served from the same very same meal line where sailors once received their meals.
