Visiting Trenton & the Delaware River Region

New Jersey’s Delaware River region is home to Trenton, the state capital. The MiLB Trenton Thunder mark spring with opening day early April. Enjoy the 2013 spring and summer baseball season at Arm & Hammer Park at Trenton’s Waterfront Park. The Sun National Center in downtown Trenton is a hub of events for the capitol city area. After hosting the Trenton Titans hockey season, the calendar features events including Spring Fest, and Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Visitors traveling through Trenton see the Trenton Battle Monument located in the Five Points neighbor hood, along with Grounds for Sculpture northeast of downtown.

Dream Park, located 10-miles south of Thorofare in Gloucester County, is a World Class New Jersey Equestrian & Event Facility. The Garden State Paint Horse Club celebrates its 40th Anniversary in 2013. GSPHC holds shows at Dream Park, April 27th – 28th, and July 6th – 7th. The New Jersey Quarter Horse Association holds their Dream Show, May 2nd through 5th. Join the excitement of the Extreme Mustang Makeover, August 2nd through the 4th, as trainers attempt to tame wild mustangs.

As the warm weather of spring and summer arrive in the Delaware River region, Gloucester County’s parks and golf courses fill with activity. Pitman Golf Course, mid way between Thorofare and Williamstown, is one of South New Jersey’s top public golf courses featuring a regulation 18-hole course.

Scotland Run Park, 4-miles southwest of Williamstown, is Gloucester County’s largest park featuring over 1000 acres and Wilson Lake. A popular warm weather outdoor recreation spot, Scotland Run offers fishing, boating, playground area, and picnic facilities. The park is open year round – stop by any day and enjoy the Nature Center with its environmental education programs.

A visit to the USS New Jersey, one of the nation's most decorated battleships, is a must for visitors to the Delaware River region. Located north of downtown Camden and south of Dr. Ulysses Wiggins Waterfront Park, the Battleship New Jersey is now a museum and open for tours. Visitors are able to climb the ladders, sit in the commander’s chair, and even stretch out on the sailor’s bunks – an authentic historical experience.
