Visiting Northwest New Jersey Skylands

Get outdoors in northwest New Jersey's Skylands region. Ramsey is a small borough northwest of Newark in the foothills of the Ramapo Mountains. A pleasant community with convenient access for commuters to northern New Jersey corporations and industries, Ramsey’s Finch Park becomes hub of summer fun for the community.

The Ramsey Municipal Pool is another summer destination for residents and visitors. The Ramsey pool features a four-acre facility with a fifty-meter pool, diving well, and wading pool. There’s plenty of lawn and activities for all. Look for the pool opening Memorial Day weekend.

Historic Morristown has just opened its own location of Carlos’s Bakery on Market Street. Owner Buddy Valastro of Cake Boss fame makes Morristown his fifth store location in New Jersey. A star sighting or great pastry, you decide the reason for a visit.

Work off those treats at the 5th Annual Superhero Half Marathon and Relay May 18th. Organized by the Morristown Running Company, the race benefits Meals on Wheels of Morristown. Not just a race, this is an event – dress in your favorite superhero costume and join the fun.

See the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra perform their outdoor evening concert in June, hosted at Giralda Farms Music & Arts Festival. August visitors, don’t miss the Jazz and Blues Festival on the Morristown Green. Held mid-August, the festival is a day filled with concerts and music in historic downtown Morristown – admission is free.

New Providence, 10 miles southeast of Morristown, is located on the western slope of the Watching Mountains on the Passaic River. Another great community that fills with summer events and activities New Providence hosts Union County Family Fun & Flix various evenings through summer. The Union County Summer Arts Concert Series fills Wednesday nights with concerts at Echo Lake Park and Oak Ridge Park.

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is located in New Brunswick, between the communities of South Plainfield and East Brunswick. The RU campus is dotted with public sculpture, including the new Julian Voss-Andreae work, Synergy. Set at the entryway to Rutgers’ Center for Integrative Proteomics Research.
