Visiting the Northwest New Jersey Skylands

The Skylands region of New Jersey – the area at the northwestern corner of the state, and home to counties like Morris, Somerset, Warren, and Sussex – can yield a diverse list of things to see and do.

Across its roughly 60,000 acres of state parkland, you can find idyllic views, outdoor recreation, and so much more. And during the fall and winter, this region’s towns and cities offer visitors an impressive batch of festivals, events, concerts, and more. Plan your tour through the Skylands soon.

This fall, as you travel through the Skylands and townships like East Brunswick and South Plainfield, you’ll be greeted by a college football fervor – this is Scarlet Knights territory. On November 19th, make your way to the High Point Solutions Stadium in Piscataway to watch the Rutgers Scarlet Knights battle the Penn State Nittany Lions. Kickoff is at 8 p.m.

Make sure your visit to the Skylands includes a stay in Morristown. Warm and welcoming, Morristown will yield one of the most fun-filled days on your visit – just head for the Morristown National Historical Park. Open year round, this park will provide impressive and edifying historical insights. You can checkout Washington’s Headquarters Museum, the Ford Mansion, the Jockey Hollow Visitor Center, or the Wick House.

Some of the events you can plan for at the Morristown NHP include Peter Toth: Centennial Series Piano Recital on September 1st at 1 p.m., and the Fall 18th Century Living History Weekend starting October 22nd. Both are free events, offer uniquely seasonal activities, and the drive in from New Providence is quick and scenic.

One of the most anticipated concert events of the season in Morristown is slated for October 26th. Head for the Mayo Performing Arts Center at 8 p.m. to see The Mavericks live on stage as they perform hits like I Should Have Been True, I’ve Got This Feelings, and many more.

The drive in to Totowa from Ramsey will be brief, and you’ll want to visit on October 5th for the major event: ULTIMATE Bridal Show Experience, presented by La Donna Productions. This is a free events where you can find raffles, give aways, expos, and more, all held at The Bethwood banquet hall.
