Fun in NJ for the Whiz Kids of the Family

Make your way to Newark, the largest city in New Jersey, for the Newark Museum – the largest museum in New Jersey. From Wednesday through Sunday, noon to 5 p.m., you and your family may stroll through the famed Tibetan galleries, or discover the many works of American art adorning the walls of the Newark Museum, a pride of the Newark area.

Astronomy aficionados may step inside the Dreyfuss Planetarium for an afternoon under the stars, while natural science fans may explore the Victoria Hall of Science. Kids love the 1784 Schoolhouse, neighboring the also-popular Fire Museum, while teenagers may take advantage of the Newark Museum’s teen workshops, welcoming teenagers from 13 to 18 years of age.

Just 20 miles north of Newark is the New Jersey Children’s Museum, set in the shopper-friendly city of Paramus near Fort Lee. Take the family the New Jersey Children’s Museum from Tuesday through Sunday for a chance to explore fascinating exhibits, celebrate birthdays and special occasions, or check out family-friendly events. Let the little ones jump in the Hughes helicopter in the Space & Aviation Center, or divulge in some cave drawings in the Dinosaur Cave. Other exhibits in the New Jersey Children’s Museum include the Wild West, Medieval Castle, and the TV Studio. Join in on the fun yourself, or sit back and enjoy as your kids tear their way through this more than appropriate pit stop in kid-friendly New Jersey.

For the future inventors in your household, check out the Thomas Edison National Historic Park, set in West Orange. Stroll through the Laboratory Complex from Wednesday through Sunday, or take a guided tour, or even cell phone tour, of the famed, 29-room Glenmont Estate and grounds – home of the Edison family. Once you’ve picked up your tickets from the Laboratory Complex Visitor Center, catch the 20-minute orientation film “Invention Factory” or check out the tour of the Chemistry Lab. Kids will be fascinated by films and laboratory, and can even earn a Jr. Ranger Badge during their time at the Thomas Edison National Historic Park. Egghead or no, the kids are sure to have a great time during your next family vacation to New Jersey – and so will you.
